On Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006, Flower Mound’s water supplier, the Upper Trinity Water District, convened its Board of Directors to vote on a proposed bylaw change which would establish a process to discipline and censure representatives – a measure that would have silenced any board member that wishes to dissent.
“I come with my costume to remind you directors of events that happened on Dec. 16, 1773, when great patriots of this country went into the harbor of Boston and spilled the water - I mean, tea - into the bay,” said Flower Mound councilman and Mayor Pro Tem Paul “Revere” Stone as he dramatically poured a bottle of water into a small container. “I have looked at your actions, and how this district works, and it continues to remind me of the cries of our patriots hundreds of years ago: no taxation without representation!”
Stone was preceded by Denton County Commissioner Jim Carter and Flower Mound
Mayor Jody Smith, both set against the backdrop of a large group of irritated
Flower Mound residents. The proposal was defeated 21 to 3.
